Pet Photos with Santa! -- Monday December 1st, 2008
SOS Participates in Petsmart's Pet Photos with Santa!
We're looking for volunteers to work at this fun fundraiser! You can play the part of Santa (most of our Santas last year were ladies, so don't let gender stop you!) or help out by taking/printing out the photos, or doing the paperwork/keeping things organized. At the Oakley store we'll need volunteers on 12/7, 12/20 & 12/21 from 11a-4p. At the Milford store we'll need volunteers on 12/13 & 12/14 from 11a-4p. SOS gets $5 from every photo sale, which amounted last year at the Oakley store alone to almost $2000! After a very expensive kitten season, we really could use the money! And it's fun to see all the cute animals, many in Christmas costumes of their own! Contact Lynne Heldman at 513-489-3442 if you'd like to help.
New Shelter Opening! -- Sunday November 30th, 2008
We're proud to announce a new project to provide a safe haven for those cats who often find themselves unwanted and unloved - seniors and those with "special needs" such as health or behavior problems that require medication and/or special care. These cats are slow to be adopted, if they ever do find a special person who will accept them as they are, so they tend to take up space in our regular foster homes for extended periods of time. One of our volunteers has committed to helping these cats and is in the process of transforming the second floor of her home into a cage-free shelter for them. Special modifications need to be made, such as vinyl flooring (for obvious reasons) and steps leading up to window perches and furniture for those cats who can no longer jump or climb. We're taking up special funds to help with the expense of this project. If you'd like to contribute to this fund, send a note with your donation designating it for the "Senior and Special Needs Shelter". As always, thank you!!

The President's Corner -- Tuesday June 5th, 2007
THE PRESIDENT’S CORNER
Hi All! This is the first edition of a new short weekly newsletter to bring you the latest updates on Save Our Strays’ happenings! I appreciate all of the support you give to us and the animals in so many ways!!
I founded Save Our Strays in 1998 as a spay/neuter group. Our mission is to decrease the overpopulation of cats and dogs through humane methods. Our main thrust is the spay/neuter of cats and dogs, whether feral, stray or low income. As a by-product, of course, we try to find good homes for many of the adoptable animals we are able to rescue.
We are currently involved with the abandoned house you may have read about in the Enquirer or on-line in the Business Week magazine. The resident of the house was evicted, leaving 30 kittens and cats locked inside, no food or water, as well as 30 cats outside. We worked with Silver Bells rescue and 2 other small rescue groups and individuals in this situation. We helped to spay/neuter and place the inside cats into foster care before the authorities came in to take the cats to the SPCA (where they most likely would have been euthanized due to blindness and sickness). To date, we have rescued 53 cats. We have had terrific response from the public --- not only from local Cincinnatians, but from people from Florida to Maine! And we still welcome help for this situation in the form of fosters, adoptions and donations.
Please remember we have kittens and cats up for adoption at the Oakley Petsmart on Ridge Road during store hours. We also have more rescue kittens and cats who come to Petsmart specially for our Saturday adoptathons. In the last 3 weekends, we adopted 17 pets to new loving homes. Congratulations and many thanks to our volunteers who care for the cats and do the actual adoptions at Petsmart!!
And we continue our TNR-- Trap/Neuter/Release – efforts that Save Our Strays was built on. We have spayed all of the cats living in the back yard of a 68 year old woman in Price Hill, as well as all of the 19 cats that a Sharonville woman in her 70’s has been feeding for years. There will be no more kittens at these sites, which will now be manageable and therefore a safe haven for these kitties. We continually receive requests from the public for TNR and are constantly working to fulfill all of them.
I will welcome your input for future newsletters. If you would like to volunteer to foster, trap, transport, clean cages or answer phones, please reply to this email. We always welcome donations to Save Our Strays, PO Box 62083, Cinti 45262. And if you prefer not to be on the receiving end of this newsletter, please email me and let me know.
Thank-you for your dedication to the animals! Have a great week!
